“Hello, my
name is Orla and I am over working in Washington this summer for he
Young Leaders Program. Its a great way to end a hard year of work in
University of Ulster Coleraine, where I was doing an Education Degree
PGCE (primary). Last year I was in DC with the Young Leaders and my
internship was in the EPA. (Environmental Protection Agency) Its
wonderful being back and meeting a new set of Young Leaders from all
over Ireland. In September I am going to teach in Madrid and so I am
going to try and enjoy myself as much as possible before I enter the
world of work!!!!”

Well another weekend has passed be by and what a fun filled and cultural one it was.
The play on Friday was fun but as Adam has mentioned we are lucky to be able to face another day after the journey home.

On Saturday afternoon my mentor (Kelly – Sabrina’s host mom) kindly took me to a picnic with Secretary Riley. He was very interested in talking to me about the situation in Northern Ireland at present, since he was there not to long ago meeting with his counterparts the minsters of Eduaction in the North and South. He is a very pleasnt man and clearly displayed Lincoln’s leadership techniques. I thanked him on behalf of the young leaders for his support for the Program. A guy at the picnic told me that he was in Belfast in May and he stayed at Madisons ‘a little hotel with a bar’ – little did he know that that is one of the most sophisticated night clubs we have and you will often find Sean Doherty and John Mackel in there having a pint of bitter.

Saturday night was great fun but unfortunately not everyone could see the fun Paddy had dancing with his glow sticks. To top the weeknd off – Ciara, Sabrina, Julianne and I danced the night away at the Earth, Wind and Fire concert. Our dance routines nad singing was the talk of the crowd and we have been asked to be the Disco Diva’s for the remainder of the tour!!!! Of couse we had to decline due to our commitment to the Young Leaders program – sorry guys.

Hello everyone,
This is a big step for me …. the first time I have written in my journal pad. Even though I was here last year I never managed to express my thoughts on the web. Last night I was bullied my Paul who made me see the errors of my ways and as a student co-ordinator I should be an example to all. So thank you Paul you will now allow the world to be bored by my daily (lets make that weekly) entries.
So far so good. I have now been here almost four weeks and the time has flown. The interns this year are good fun and althogether ‘dead on’ ( I was paid good money to be nice about then all). The past weekend and holidays were great – we managed to fit in seeing the Dali Lami, ten pin bowling, walking from Maryland into DC, the impressionist exhibition, the cinema, swimming, 4th of July fireworks and of course shopping. Having a 3 day week has its many advantages – its makes you wish for the student life again.
