Well I suppose as I work in the Young Leaders Office I have no excuse for taking so
long to put something in this thing. If you go by my record of last year you will see that
I am not the best at these things but I intend to inprove on it this year.

The Story so far: Episode I : Before the madness

Clair, Neil and I arrived in DC on Monday the 14th of June. Our trip was not without
misadventure. Our flight from JFK to DC was cancelled and we spent 5 hours on a bus that
was not fit for transporting dogs let alone human cargo. Nevertheless we arrived in good
spirits, smelling like refugees but in good spirits nontheless.

Claire and I have been working in th Young Leaders office for nearly three weeks now.
Run of our feet. Honest. Making sure that all the interns are enjoying themselves and
making the most of their time in DC.

Before they came myself and Claire managed to get to see the Merchant of Venice at the
Shakespeare Theatre. Fine performance by Hal Holbrook as Shylock. I had not seen the play
before and I don’t think I have ever seen a play with so few likable characters in it. On
the way home whilst i was waiting for a bus at Dupont Circle I was approached by a rather
portly fellow who invited me back to his place for the night. “You look gorgous”
says he “I’m flattered” says I “but I am not interested”. Typical the
first time somebody who I have never seen before comes up to offer a wild night of passion
and its a bloke.

The interns arrived on Sunday the 20th and Claire and I spent the weekend in Delaware
as guests of Kathie and Rich. A very civilised weekend away from the the hustly and bustle
of the big city. It is a fabulous place surrounded by trees with a lake and a pool. Quite
a romantic place but I’ll say no more about the weekend safe to say that a good time was
had by all.

Till the next time

Episode II : the second comming.

The interns arrived on Sunday the 20th of June. Surprisingly enough we did not loose anybody and the few people who had lost their bags recovered them within a few days.

We gave them the night off and the next day we met in the trendy new Young Leaders office and then after lunch we all went on the Oakley Brooks Tour of Death. This year the weather was nice and mild so there were no casulties.

Tuesday we were of to the University Club which is a rather swanky “Gentlemans Club” for a panel discussion as guests of the British Embassy. I must say they put on a rather spiffing luncheon.

Wednesday was the day for a tour of the Capitol, thanks to Rep. Oxleys office and particularly to Peter Erdman and to the lovely Becka who gave us the tour. Afterwards we were guests of Jonathan Abram at Hogan and Hartson (a big international Law firm with its HQ in DC). We had an interesting afternoon with Mark Shields, a man who is even funnier when you know something about US politics.\
