il scorchio!!!!! Weather hit 100’s today. Pamela and I celebrated the 4th of July in
style on the White House lawn after getting picked up by two guys with special invites –
we were well chuffed with ourselves. I have stunned the natives by managing to get picked
up in Dupont Circle – by a male!!! . Impressed some Irish visitors in the metro at 1.30am
with a rendition of the Boys from County Armagh which I continued on the Tube to help
Pamela to sleep – needless to say it didn’t work!!! Got my passport stolen in a Hispanic
club police are looking for a 30 stone male on a diet taking oestrogen. Armagh won the
Semi final of the Ulsters beating Derry by 1 point – 3 cheers – Cheers to Diarmid Marsden,
Cheers to the whole team and Cheerio to Joe Brolly.

So we’re gearing up to face Down in the next match of the Championships and down Down
will go. Someone out there better email me a blow by blow account of the match
(mealla75@hotmail.com). I was at the Pentagon for my lunch the other day – definitely
worth a visit from the female of the species – I was completely flanked by gorgous men in
uniform. I think I’ll go back next week – just to see the rest of the building of
course!!!. If the title of Jedi Knight was conferred on people for drinking, this group
would all be running around with luminous swords. Kamakazi Clubbers would be a more
fitting adjective though. A burnt out liver will be a reminder of the Irish bars in
Washington.

Have we had our first victim of the program?? – rumours are abounding as to the
whereabouts of a certain outgoing male in the group!!!!!. I’m off on my travels from work
again today to hear some bloke called Tony O’Brien talk about abortion in Ireland – never
heard of him – Has anyone ?? I think he could be a lecturer. The other intern working with
me has dumped our program for another – the swine – so I’ve been given all her research –
I’m not impressed.

Going to the Zoo Zoo Zoo You can come Too Too Too
No you can’t really unless you’re
in DC – ha ha. I paid my second visit to the animal fair on Sunday. The birds and the bees
were there. The elephant sneezed and fell on his knees and what become of the monkey,
monkey, monkey. That didn’t happen, really. But 2nd time lucky I got to see the panda, who
made a rare appearance to feed. Unfortunately by the time I got my camera out of the bag I
could only get a picture of his bum – charming!!

Haven’t been keeping up to date with this journal lark – but you know what they say – good girls keep diarys, bad girls don’t have time.
Watched Down getting trounced by Armagh in Fados Irish bar in Chinatown last week. $20 in to see it live (9.30am here) but it was worth it. A dirty pint and a fry make a lovely breakfast. Went to the Irish Embassy last friday – can’t say it was the highlight of the trip but the drink flowed so we were able to cope.
Today is my last day of work – yeah – time to do the real interesting stuff – the experience of life and culture and all the rest. A solid week of siteseeing and touring, starting with a weekend in the Big Apple.
Tonight we have a fundraiser in Irelands Own – I’ve already paid a visit and it was full of real Irish people ( the kind that were born in America).
Does anyone know our host Mum shes called Kathleen (Carson) Barger, shes very cool, very intelligent – she knows Ireland better than I do She has put in a lot of effort for project children and I’m thanking her a thousand times just in case no one has done so already but I’m sure they have.
Thanks Kathleen for taking Pamela and me at such short notice –
go raibh mile maith agat.
Regards also to the Jedi Council – even though some of you faded last night – you missed some great action at RRG.
May the force be with you.
Hello to Mary Beth – my mentor who I met for a great lunch and thanks for setting up that interview with Donna Shalala on Monday.
A big thanks to Sheri and Eloise – my supervisors in CPA – who gave me a cool research project and sent me to lots of fab meetings and stuff.
Anyhow I’ve loads more people to thank but I’ve been going on a bit so I’m going to go.
Catch ya later
