Here’s an account of my first day at Richfield
Productions:
Thursday July 9th. – Picked up by Debbie at 8:45am. – Drive to Richfield Productions. –
Meet Rich, Cuong, Jim and Steve at the office. – Watch Steve and Cuong digitize Steve’s
movie about a Tibetan “free love” tribe on the Avid computer, a “non-linear
digital editing system.” Very cool. – Go to Staples in Georgetown with Cuong to get
some storage boxes. – Got the wrong boxes: back to Staples. – Build the boxes and fill up
with tapes to make way for Steve’s Tibetan tapes. – LUNCH! Walk with Rich and talk about
my expectations for the internship: what I hope to achieve etc. – After lunch Cuong
explains a bit about Avid and how to use it. I get my first tutorial, and manage not to
break the thing. – Get a lift home with Debbie at 6:00pm. – Dinner with Stuart and the
Morland’s. – Go to Irish Times to play pool. No one else is there, as they all went to
Champions, where it is $10 happy hour. DOH! – Try to find Champions in Georgetown. – Give
up and come home. – Bummer.

To EIBHILIN, Sorry for what I said at that intern meeting on Tuesday. It WAS NOT
personal: I didn’t even know it was you who was talking, I just wanted to get out of that
room as quickly as possible. Sorry.
David.

My brain hurts. By the way, my intro at the top of the page should read “I have no
idea who might be reading this, BUT whatever…” I bet they still don’t fix it. Hello
to everyone, hope you’re not feeling the strain like I am – sometimes I just wish I was at
home where I could do whatever I want, whenever I want, to whoever I want to do it to (!)
Just ignore me, I’m too tired to still be at work (it’s now 7:15pm) At least it’s raining
for once. Later…

If anyone is actually in work today, like me, you might want to give yourself a quick
laugh by clicking on the “Stoywise” link over there on the left (in the links
box) Can’t wait for tommorrow…

Hello everyone, it’s been a while…but apart from that, it’s also been ages since I “wrote” anything in this here journal type thang.
Anyway, over the weekend I did the following; saw the band FUGAZI twice (see Phil’s journal for more details), got soaked to the skin in a thunder storm (again, see Phil’s journal), saw the excellent Great Falls park in Virginia, drank many beer and played pool for free until 2:00 in the morning (thanks Chuck), hit baseballs all afternoon in Maryland (thanks Morgana, and if you’re at work, bored and reading this then “Hi!”), and had the most harrowing cinema going experience in my 20 year career whilst seeing “Saving Private Ryan.” How many exploding bodies can you fit into one film? – Steven Spielberg has the answer. A good film, but not exactly first date material. For some honest entertainment, I’d recommend “There’s Something About Mary” or “The Mask Of Zorro” – Catherine Zeta Jones: RRRRAAAAAARRRRR!!! (excellent choice, Johnny 5)
That’s about it, so until next time –
Be seeing you…
