This is me in the city. Its not that hot… yet. DC does seem to have its charms, but I
digress. Have just about settled in and start work on Monday. No craic yet (I love using
that word on the metro), but the party begins tonight.

Ok, Second day of work and am still feeling terrible after stumbling out of the Irish
Times in the early hours of the morning, but there was a birthday to be celebrated after
all.

Went to various meetings at work today and then went to more meetings.

Oh by
the way, I’m in the Consumer Affairs office that deals with planes and things. Interesting
stuff.

Am going home now, to recover. There is a big weekend to celebrate.

Hey,

Finally worked out the name of my office today, how impressive am I?

Its
the Aviation Consumer Protection Division of the Department of Transportation.

Now all
I have to do is some work.

Am getting big project to do on the airlines, should keep
me occupied for a while.

Anyway, gotta go am supposed to be doing work.

Hey everyone,

Am in good form today for several reasons, but will not bore you with
the details. Had a good moan at my boss, he thinks I’m a bit mad and he just laughed at
me. Grainne who also works here is being too conscientious, someone has to tell her to
calm down.

I also have to give a mention to an American intern from Congress. This
would be the person who is showing the group the finer cultural aspects of Washington.
James McIntyre stand up and take a bow.

Got very lost in the early hours of Friday morning on the way home. The sad thing was
that I was actually quite sober.

It turned our okay though, when strange person I met
in the street give me a lift home!

I know that I have been pretty bad at writing in my journal, but some of us
actually do work, when we are at work.

The most important thing to say at the minute
is this: I would like to thank the Irish Embassy for providing ham the other night. You
can’t beat a good ham sandwich with a big stick. Its really hard to find ham out here as
well. Oh ham.

I once had this ham sandwich, it was mad, actually it was really good,
brown bread, now you can’t beat that with a big stick.

I would also like to take this
opportunity to thank ABBA for the music.

I am tired. It has nothing to do with alcohol. It has to do with my half hour walk
home from the metro every evening.

The alcohol helps me keep my sanity, one should not
speak badly about it.

God knows I need it more than ever over here
